Opportunities for Volunteering
The Veterans Administration Volunteer Service (VAVS) is in need of volunteers to assist
at the Nevada Veterans Hospital and four super clinics being constructed across the Las
Vegas Valley. At the Post 1947 meeting January 11, 2011, Dr. Roy W. Kekahuna, Chief of
Voluntary Service for the VA Southern Nevada Health Care System, gave a presentation
on the need for volunteers and the types of jobs for which their assistance is needed.
Dr. Kekahuna said the VA has set up an expedited registration and clearance process for the
Catholic War Veterans and Knights of Columbus.
To volunteer, call Dan Kamanao at the VAVS on telephone number (702) 636-3034 and arrange an
appointment. The initial interview is at the VA Central Clinic, 901 Rancho Lane, Las Vegas,
NV 89106. The VA clearance Process involves taking your Identification Card photograph, finger
prints and performing a background check. Each year you will need to be tested for TB
and review two videos on patient privacy and information security.
The first new Clinic opening will be the Northwest clinic on Rancho Blvd, about
October. There will be need of a minimum of five persons on each shift.
